May is here and Grouper Fishing is Red Hot in the Florida Keys! May 1 2013

The Florida Keys and Islamorada have been waiting for Grouper season to arrive and boy has the catching been fantastic.  Grouper fishing has been good and today marks the first day that anglers can keep these tasty fish.  Big Black and Gag grouper have been reported so far today and along with that action reports of big Mutton Snappers being caught are coming in.  Muttons and Groupers will eat the same baits offered up.

The offshore report has been good too.  Dolphin fishing in 300 to 800 feet of water has been very productive.  Captains are fishing the current rips and looking for floating debris to find fish.  I’ve had plenty of reports of Slammer Dolphin and nice sized Gaffer fish being found.  Freshly rigged ballyhoo and pilchards seem to be the best baits to offer these fish as they pass through our waters here in the Florida Keys.  Capt Steve Leopold of Yabba Dabba Charters at Holiday Isle Resort and Marina is reporting plenty of Mahi mahi over 30 pounds.

Backcountry and Flats fishing is very good right now too.  Captains Tony & Mike of Bamboo Charters have been guiding clients to a good Tarpon bite all through out the day around Islamorada and the Everglades National Park has been fantastic for huge Bull sharks, Tarpon, Redfish and Snook.  Live baits and soft plastic jerk baits are the key to a great catch.

To get out on the water call Miss Ana at 305-394-0000 and she can book your complete fishing holiday here in the Florida Keys.
